Uncertainty
Allowing ourselves to not have the answers and embrace uncertainty in life affords us the opportunity to learn something new and see things in a new perspective. By opening and allowing ourselves to not know, we grow.
It’s ok to be uncertain in life. Life is uncertain and unpredictable, and only fools convince themselves of being so certain about anything.
We can hold our personal truths close to us and try our best to honor them, but we can also remain open and flexible with them as well. Our truths evolve. We feel them strongly, but with time do we only begin to understand them more clearly.
Personal truths and values can be our guiding light, but they can also be what blinds us as well. Sometimes what we hold dear can also be what limits us in pursuit of it. There is no easy formula for finding the right balance. All we can do is to remain open to experimenting, learning and evolving.
It can feel like work—to practice introspection. Sometimes challenging when we are called to question our selves and our perspective. Having free will is a remarkable ability of being human. It is what sets us apart from other living things. We make numerous choices everyday based upon a diverse range of information, patterns and conditions. However we are all gifted with the ability to question the process, and in turn, to make different choices. When we stop to question it breaks up the predictability of our programming. And it also introduces uncertainty.
Uncertainty is like the in-between space between a yes or a no. It asks us to sit in the space of not knowing. It can make us feel uncomfortable, impatient, angsty, or lost from the lack of control. But these feelings can indicate when it’s precisely time to surrender and allow ourselves to not have the answers. Instead of pushing onwards and convincing ourselves so strongly that we are so certain, perhaps we can find the courage to question. Perhaps we can even enjoy the spaciousness of not knowing. The best thing we can do, if we allow ourselves to sit in the space of uncertainty, is to give it time and patience. Eventually, clarity will come. What the space of uncertainty does for us is that it gives us an opportunity to go through the process, learn something new, and see things in a whole new perspective.
There’s a magical process—of spirit and energy—that works for us beneath the surface. Whenever we create an opening, a space, we create an opportunity for new things to develop. It may not be so apparent or clear on the surface, but trust that there’s life intelligence at work. And it may not happen immediately or as soon as you’d like, but like any process in life it will take as long as it takes. Try to have faith that life is working for you. No amount of control can speed anything along. And trying to bend things to your will will only prove more frustrating and challenging. Anything that promises eternal stability, or change without letting go, or fast results is an illusion. Growing and evolving in life requires us to continuously renew, and part of that is letting go of what we think we know.
By opening and allowing ourselves to not know, we grow.
