Words Matter

The word “LOVE” can take so many different forms and meanings. And like all words, its translation is shaped by its founding culture of the times and of the present. Words are merely symbols of an abstract energy that ultimately can never really be fully defined and articulated. Human created words only attempt to. They simplify what is incredibly nuanced and evolving into something seemingly so simple. Words like love and peace are concise, but it’s meaning is complex and profound.

Consider some of the oldest languages still used today, such as Chinese or Egyptian, and its words are shaped by its context. Despite being drastically simplified in today’s times, language is merely the basic structure for expression, but the meaning of words can change depending on how it’s used and expressed. Words and language can also be a means of sharing emotions, sharing time together, and cultivating intimacy. Sometimes words can be exchanged and the conversation as a whole is much about nothing, and yet the meaning of the time shared in delighting in the conversation and the sharing of expressions is the main point. It is more about the spirit of the conversation, rather than the information exchanged. It is such a drastic contrast to the English language of the Western world, where words are merely viewed as blunt tools to exchange information and to get things done.

We are in strange times where the meaning of words do not matter. Where there is no truth and integrity behind what people say. Where people will use words that actually convey something entirely different. Where people have no problem lying and speaking falsely, instead of truths. Where people word vomit everywhere, unconscious to what they are actually saying at all. We can say words have lost their meaning, but it is humankind that has forgotten the energetic and emotional meaning behind the words. Words are representative of energy, and when we speak words, they carry energy that influence our environment, each other, and even ourselves. What we say matters, what we express matters, and more importantly how we do it matters. The tone matters, our intention matters. The context matters. When we speak words we should equally be feeling them. Recognizing, that when we speak and feel those words, we are exchanging energy, and embodying them as well. Speaking truths is the only way we can ensure that what we are speaking and expressing is right. And if we do not know, then listen, ask questions, and endeavor, always, to understand.
